Environment: The underworld is nothing more than a dark cavernous dimension that has no source of natural light. The only foliage that survives in this realm are those that can survive without sunlight. A system of underground tunnels itself, the only source of light are torches aligning cavern walls put in place by upper level demons.

Spotlight Quote

"Look, I get why you want to stay guarded, but I promise that you can trust me. If I was evil and secretly planning against you, I probably would have done something way cooler than getting chest punted across a grave yard."

Ethan keeps his phone on his shoulder as he shakes his computer’s mouse to vanquish the screen saver. He quickly types a header on the opened document, "Inspector Mason Frank Interview, 8-3-05". He drums his fingers lightly on the desk once he is done, waiting for Mason to answer.

Mason rests the black receiver of the phone between his ear and shoulder. The position may be uncomfortable but at least it will allow him to continue typing. It is moments like these when he wishes that his cloning could be more controlled. If that was so, then he can a clone do the song and dance of answering the phone while the real Mason works on his cases. Mason's fingers continue to clack on the keyboard his eyes watching the monitor intently for any errors. After he reaches a break in his typed sentence he begins to speak to whoever is on the other end of the line. "Mason Frank SFPD, How can I help you?" The officer impatiently waits for whomever is on the other line to speak and more importantly to say whatever they hell they needed so he can get back to his work.

As the phone rings Ethan grabs a pen from the holder on his desk and thoughtlessly bites gently on the cap. He has no intention of using the pen, but the small act helps him think. As Mason answers Ethan throws the pen from his mouth and sits up. He can hear the irritation in Mason's voice, but suspect once he realizes this call is from the not so normal side of his life he may be less annoyed. Ethan had sense in past interactions with Inspector Frank that he rather enjoyed magic and the world it opened him to.

"Inspector Frank, this is Ethan DeLorme from the Bay Mirror. How are you today? I was calling to see you would be willing to help me with a piece I'm writing on unusual murders in the city."

Ethan knows Mason will pick up on what he's getting at. Most of what he's just said is a formality done for the sake of the other Bay Mirror employees surrounding him.

A mental light bulb flashes in his head as he realizes that he is speaking with Ethan. The two had met and vanquished a demon together a few months prior. DeLorme is what is known as a Druid. A being that has their magic firmly rooted in the Earth. As relieved as he may be to talk to someone magically inclined, Ethan is also a member of the press. In the time that Mason has been with the Department, he has not been comfortable divulging such personal information about the deceased and general crimes to the press. To him, it is as if he is betraying a trust he has developed with these people. Yet still, he willingly shares the information. It is the nature of the job after all.

Mason does not catch the subtle hints of the supernatural. At first. He instead chooses to answer the question as it applies to the Mortal Realm. Should he feel comfortable enough to talk about the magical aspects he will. But not a second before. Life as a police officer has made him rather cynical. Mason then begins to speak. "Let me start off by saying that every murder is unusual. The act itself is without rhyme or reason." Mason is aware that he himself has murdered. Though it may have been just a warlock and for the greater good, he has killed. After a sufficient pause the wiccan inspector resumes. "Now, there was a murder within the Blue Sky Apartments several days ago. The victim was female and suffered a single stab wound." Mason stops in hopes of giving Ethan enough time to write. He also stops for the barrage of questions that will soon be upon him. Most of which he does not have the answer to. (Well, this should be good. This better not be another story on how incompetent the police are. If they think this is so easy then I'd like to see them take up the badge.)

Ethan quickly types away as Mason speaks. He is used to such responses; very general authoritative speeches are common among inspectors. He perks up at the mention of a specific murder. He wonders if Mason suspects magical involvement. If he does than Ethan's scrying abilities could easily help end the problem before the issue arose again. He switches his phone to the other ear and stops typing once Mason pauses.

"Do you think the murder was..." He looks around the office, not wanting to sound suspicious to any of his co-workers, "done by a mortal?"

Mason pauses. It is as if the witch has been taken off guard. He just isn't used to discussing magic out in the open. Whether it be on the phone or in public, it is all just foreign to him. Mason quickly regains his composure. He straightens his postures, ceasing all typing. His looks over his shoulder before speaking. "There isn't enough evidence to say the true cause of the murder. However, from what we do have, it is clear that it is a crime of necessity." Mason begins to rub the back of his head and leans slightly in his chair. "But if something does come up, I'll give you a call."

As Ethan listens to Inspector Frank his eyes hop from co worker to co worker, he knows the odds that anyone is listening to him, or can even hear Mason on the other line are extremely slim. However he still likes to be precautious; if Kathryn were to get wind of a conversation like this she'd rip him a new one before he could even try to run. To Ethan, Mason sounds rather uncomfortable, as if magic is something he would rather not discuss at all. "Okay, you know that if you have anything from the crime, a weapon or anything, I might be able to find someone from it. I'm good at that." He turns in his swivel chair away from the key board, Mason's first quote would work well for the piece, and the rest of this wasn't exactly Bay Mirror material. His eyes quickly flit to Phoebe’s office, making sure Kathryn is still inside. Once confident he is still in the clear, he resumes to staring blankly around the office.

The witch's attention returns to the computer screen as he attempts to relieve some of the tension in his body. He still has to get used to having friends in the know about the magical world. He has been keeping the secret for years. It will take a while for him to fully adjust. Mason perks up in his seat as Ethan resumes. "That's good to know." It has been a while since he has worked with a druid such as Ethan. He had forgotten about their enhanced scrying abilities. (He sure would be handy out in the field.) Mason continues. "Talk to you later Mr. DeLorme." Mason removes the receiver from his ear and brings it to the base. The call ends with a soft click.

Ethan is confused by how uncomfortable Inspector Frank seems. Back when they had worked together Mason had seemed eager to use magic, and fight demons. Perhaps working in the force had changed him more than one would expect. As the inspector hangs Ethan is left with a slight feeling of disappointment, the phone call had produced nothing of use in his magical or normal life. He looks at the almost empty document in front of him. (Blew that one) Ethan saves what he does have, then closes out the document.

He speaks do the now dead connection, "Thanks..." He places the phone back on the hook.
